To level out the character's smooth-talking con side, the actor makes Irving strangely likable, also conveying his open-hearted devotion to Sydney and Rosalyn's son. How do you depict a grey area in flawed, selfish people who spend their lives conning others for survival? Well, director Russell does all of his versatile actors right, starting with Bale, who, this time, puts the weight on and dons an elaborate comb-over as the balding, out-of-shape Irving. First and foremost, though, the film stands as a delicious showcase for actors to play ersatz dress-up and dig into volatile, contradictory and just-plain-cracked characters. From the art direction to the Studio 54-ready costumes to the camera movements (many a dolly-in shots reminiscent of Scorsese) and blast-from-the-past music selections -Duke Ellington's "Jeep's Blues," Wings' "Live and Let Die," Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," Donna Summer's "I Feel Love," and ELO's "10358 Overture," just to name a few -there's a giddiness in the details and a high level of craftsmanship that lends to the pitch-perfect recreation of an era. The catalyst for the entire scheme coming off or going down in flames is one neither Irving, Sydney/Edith, or Richie suspects.Ī sterling ensemble strutting their stuff in groovy '70s clothing with '70s hairstyles is one of the prime surface pleasures of "American Hustle." Russell also cannily undergoes a high-wire act of sorta-kinda truth-based storytelling that juggles dual narrators and is performed with enough snap and verve resembling filmmaking mastery by the likes of Martin Scorsese. They enlist a fake Arab sheik (Michael Peña) to pull the wool over the targets' eyes and offer them money in return for political favors. But when FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) sees right through the two con artists, he wants their help to climb the corporate ladder by busting gregarious, crooked New Jersey mayor Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner), congressmen, and a mobster. Coming a long way since being a stripper and landing a job at Cosmopolitan, Sydney becomes Irving's partner in crime and in love, reinventing herself and showing a talent for conning under the British socialite persona of Lady Edith Greensly. He's married to the manic, manicure-obsessed loose cannon Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) and has adopted her young son, but Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is his real soul mate after meeting her at a party.

While Gravit does not do everything Illustrator can, it meets the needs of most DIYers for a significant price drop.Īt this point you know more about images than most, go you! Its time to decide what type of project you want to work on. I use Gravit it with my graphic design students when creating designs for our laser engraver or to make stickers and t-shirts with our vinyl cutter. It is a chrome app so any device that runs chrome can run the program free of charge. Gravit has path tools, pen tools, arrange and align tools, and even will automatically vectorize a raster image like Illustrator's live trace tool. Gravit reflects Illustrator in many ways, it even uses the same terminology for many of its tools and menus. Gravit Designer has recently become my favorite free vector program. Neither of these applications focus on the aesthetics needed in graphic production like Illustrator or Corel though. For example, both Onshape and Tinkercad ( see my CAD instructable) allow you to download a vector design that could be produced using a laser engraver. Many CAD programs are 3-Dimensional vector programs that also allow for 2D vector graphics. There are far less free vector design applications out there than there are raster. Corel is cheaper that illustrator but still not cheap and only compatible with windows. Corel Draw is a popular illustrator alternative that is used widely by sign makers. Illustrator, like photoshop, is rather expensive for the average DIYer and only compatible on mac or windows. Vector images are the versatile solution that can be used for a variety of images or production with CNC machines such as a laser engraver, vinyl cutter, mill, router, or more.Īdobe Illustrator is the industry standard for vector image production in the graphic arts world. In this instructable I have provided a wide collection of tutorial videos that show how to use two different free applications to create either raster or vector images. When it comes to photographs and certain shaded graphics however, raster images are the better option. Typically in graphic design vector images are more widely used. Even 3D printers read 3-dimensional vector images (.stl files). Common file formats for vector images are. Any image that is produced on a CNC machine like a mill, router, vinyl cutter, or laser engraver is a vector image. Vector images are used for countless applications because of their versatility. A company would make their logo in a vector format because they may want it to be printed small on a hat one day and huge on a billboard the next. When a vector image is enlarged a computer recalculates the image so no quality is lost as is with raster pixel images. Because of this, vector images are infinitely scalable. When a computer looks at a vector image it sees equations that make up the image's structure. When we look at a vector image we see a graphic or clipart. Vector Images are those made up of points, lines, and curves. When a raster image is enlarged the pixels are enlarged and the image will become blurry, blocky, or pixelated. The more pixels, the higher the resolution or quality. Because they are constructed of pixels the quality of raster images are defined by the number of pixels in an image. All images created using a camera are raster images, those being constructed of pixels. In industry raster images are used on documents, posters, advertisements, and magazines. Raster images are the more common form of graphics and ones that you are probably used to working with. Raster Images are those made up of a grid or dot matrix of color or pixels. Images, one of the more common forms of media, comes in two different types. In today's world we are surrounded by media. Why when I click on this articles does it say: "You need a subscription." The students continue to use QAR throughout the year, across the curriculum in science, social studies, health, etc.The teacher gradually increases the length and complexity of the texts used with QAR.The teacher provides independent practice. The teacher practices identifying the QAR’s with the class. Then identify which QAR’s are evidenced through the questions given. First read the story and questions to the students. The teacher models the QAR process by using a short reading passage. The teacher introduces QAR and explains the four types of question/answer relationships (QAR’s).In this strategy, students are taught to use four question/answer relationships (QAR’s) to find the information they need to answer the question. QAR is a questioning strategy that emphasizes that a relationship exists between the question, the text, and the background of the reader. This means that many students seeking admission to professional healthcare schools will be aggressively fighting for scribe positions to acquire valuable clinical experience. This is one of the best pre medical jobs to get clinical experience. Healthcare schools are known for their competitiveness. This includes many medical and osteopathic schools, nursing schools, physical therapy schools, and even chiropractic schools. In their admissions processes, many healthcare schools require clinical experience in healthcare settings, or at least prefer it (which, as I’ve been taught, means they require it). One primary reason for the fierceness in the market for scribe jobs can be found by considering one of the groups most likely to seek them. Medical scribes have many tasks and as healthcare continues to become more technological and regulated, clinical scribes will continue to increase in importance. Medical scribes help doctors by electronically document patient visits allowing doctors to focus on patients. Physicians are busy interacting with a computer, typing and entering data instead of focusing on patients. Learn how medical assistants make good medical scribes.ĭoctors now document patient visits in an electronic medical record. Discover why a scribe job is better than shadowing a doctor. Read this article to discover the daily activities of scribes. Jobs are plentiful and this article will show you how to become a medical scribe. Medical scribe is a position in the healthcare industry that resulted from advancing technology and electronic medical record requirements. Unlike some industries, where technological advances can lead to job loss, the healthcare industry’s technological progression has led to additional jobs. It is often said that if you work in healthcare, then you’ll always have a job. Medical scribing and the healthcare industry provides opportunities for many people who want a stable job that is both exciting and well-paid. “Green Lantern” producer Don De Line said Lively found an appealing way of bonding with the cast and crew. Coming up next for her is “Hick,” with Alec Baldwin and Juliette Lewis, set for release next year, and she will soon start production on Oliver Stone's “Savages.” In 2010, Lively starred with Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner and Ben Affleck in “The Town,” directed by Affleck. “So I look at it in the same way it's that element of design, mixing different patterns and colors and textures.” She's an amazing interior decorator,” she said. My mom would always make clothes for me, growing up. “Fashion's always been something that I've appreciated. She said her sense of style comes from her mother. It's definitely an added bonus to this job to get to wear the beautiful clothes that I wear. “So I just feel like I'm getting to play dress-up every day. “Once I was on ‘Gossip Girl,' and once I lived in New York, those two combined just blew open the opportunities that I had to borrow the most beautiful clothes in the world,” she said. Lively, 23, who plays Serena van der Woodsen on “Gossip Girl,” said working on the show gave her opportunities to get more involved in fashion. There are a number of companies that offer data protection in line with today’s tough demands. However, with a few options to choose from, it’s important that you know all of the facts before you proceed. With the combination of an increase in data ‘production’ and the rise of cloud-based software, it has never been a better time to make the most of offsite data backup. Offsite data backup has now become the most cost-effective and convenient service for data storage. Offsite data backup ensures that your information is stored in one extra place and cannot be destroyed like physical storage devices. It gives you peace of mind – You’ll never need to worry about losing your data again. With an offsite data backup, your files will be automatically backed up, either to the cloud or to a dedicated off-site data centre. Information will save automatically – There’s no need to remember to constantly back up your data to remove and replace cumbersome tapes or hard drives.By saving all of your data within an offsite data backup, you should be able to free up a substantial amount of space onsite. Furthermore, they’re also vulnerable to failure with data potentially at risk as a result. Free up more onsite storage – If you’re using hard drives onsite to save data, they may become full very quickly.Enjoy unlimited storage space – Most offsite cloud storage solutions will give you unlimited space to store your data, or a plan that will allow you to increase the space as your business grows.Protect against the loss of data following a security breach – Offsite data backup will allow you to keep your information safe and sound following a security breach, restore it and helping to ensure that you don’t have to pay following a ransomware attack. There are a number of reasons why you should consider offsite data backup: Without this data, your business could grind to a halt, with downtime potentially resulting in lost revenue, fines, customer dissatisfaction and reputational damage. From office fires to burglary, flood or even natural disasters, if you don’t store backup data offsite, you are at risk of losing vital information. Why should I consider offsite data backup?Īlmost every business using computers could be under threat of data loss. Having your data backed up offsite, however, will ensure you’re always one step ahead. You could suffer a power failure, natural disaster, office flood, or even file loss due to human error. There can be many reasons why your business would be at risk from data loss. Offsite data backup is the process of using a remote – often cloud-based – storage system to ensure that you never lose your information.

I write my own blog, " Kim's Ventures in Educational Technology" about educational technology issues and tech tools as well as co-host a weekly broadcast on Saturdays through Classroom 2.0 called "Classroom 2.0 LIVE!". Currently I am semi-retired as I am not working on a campus but am doing several things online. In 2006, I achieved national board certification in Career and Technology with a specialty in Technology Education. My name is Kim Caise and I have been an educator and instructional technologist for the past 20 years. Hello and thank you for reading my guest blogger post! Let me introduce myself to you with a brief bio. If you're in a one-to-one environment, Speed Crunch could be a good program to install on student computers. Speed Crunch is a good free alternative to buying expensive scientific calculators. One Speed Crunch feature that appealed to me from a design standpoint is the color coding of equations to differentiate between constants and variables. In addition to performing all of these functions, Speed Crunch has a "math book" containing commonly used equations and formulas. Speed Crunch performs all of the functions necessary for high school Algebra and Geometry courses except graphing. He liked the having ability to store the solution to a prior problem for use in a subsequent equation. My math teaching colleague said that Speed Crunch would be very handy for a Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus class. I'm not a math teacher by any stretch of the imagination so I had one of my math teaching colleagues also try Speed Crunch after I installed it on my computer. Today was the first time I was able to install it and try it. I learned about Speed Crunch a couple of weeks ago from guest blogger Kim Caise. Speed Crunch is a free scientific calculator application for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Check to make sure that the key is still plugged in and lit. If you already have a standalone license installed and you are upgrading your license to allow you to use more recent versions of Sequencher, you should have received a 20-digit UPGR Activation Key from Gene Codes. The Sequencher License Manager will walk you through these processes. ‘Activate Sequencher’ if you want to ‘Activate Sequencher’ with a 16-digit Activation Key you received from Gene Codes or ‘Install License’ using a Sequencher license file that was provided to you. If the automatic activation of your Evaluation license fails, you will be provided with a 5-day Viewer license. Your evaluation license will be installed automatically for you at which point you have the ‘Start Sequencher’ option to start using Sequencher immediately or the ‘Quit’ option to exit Sequencher now. The License Manager will put up a contact information form for you to fill out and submit. ‘Evaluate Sequencher’ if you want to try a 15-day evaluation of Sequencher. From this dialog, you can choose the option: If you don’t currently have a standalone license, you’ll get the Sequencher License Manager dialog when you launch Sequencher. |
